Radiotherapy ✔︎ then CT scan has caused so much worry

Beginning of July I got diagnosed with Thyroid cancer. In August had a full thyroid removal. I've just had radiotherapy and I've been strong but I'm crumbling after having a CT scan yesterday..... I was told it was a full body but after the full body scan, the man said we need another scan of your pelvis. After he had used the same machine that he used for full body scan, he then moved the scan into the doughnut and scan my pelvis. The staff member said that he could not tell me anything and that I would have to wait from my consultant.

I'm 34 years old with 3 young children and I am freaking out.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your situation and need for treatment. I appreciate how having additional tests and scan can be a worry but please try not to over think things too much for now.

Often doctors do request full body scans or a scan of a particular region of the body but they are often just being cautious and checking out every area just to be on the safe side.

The radiographers who carry out scans don't often say anything during or after the scan and so it is normal to have to wait until you have seen the consultant before knowing the results, so hang in there for now.

Hopefully you will know more soon but do get back in touch if you need to. Our helpline is also open mon-fri 9-5 if you prefer on 0808 800 4040.

I wish you all the best

    take care

    Naomi
