Radial nerve damage after latissimus Dorsi flap reconstructi

I've ended up with nerve damage in my arm after an LD flap reconstruction 4 weeks ago, I'm told because of the fact my arm was elevated so long during surgery. Some parts of arm are numb, some tingly and my wrist has not got much strength in it. I have a physio appointment in a couple of weeks where I will be sure to ask as many questions as I can but wondered if anyone else had experienced anything similar and if so, did it improve after a while? Im told it should do!

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your recent surgery and the nerve damage you are experiencing since.

The nerves are commonly interfered with during this type of surgery and many patients will have experienced the same as you. As you say this usually improves with time and certainly exercising and keeping the arm moving will help to ease this and regain it's strength.

Try and take things one step at a time, it is still early days but do ask the physio questions and see what else they can suggest to help.

    Best wishes
