Lymphoma worrry

Hi, I am really worried. I have a movable lump in back of neck it moves really easily about, I went to doctors about it before which doctor said it's a cyst (didn't look at it much). I have had it there for about 3 years maybe more with no issues it's just there , about 4 months ago I had lightheaded spells which doctors did ECG , blood tests and blood pressure which all came back fine. but now I have started to itch it's been a week of itching all over  the body and I can't stop it's driving me mental! When I search lump and itching in google it comes back as lymphoma :(

What did everyone else's lumps feel like ?? where they movable and round like a spot

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I think having an enlarged lymph node in your neck for 3 years makes it less likely that you have lymphoma. This is because if you've did have lymphoma for this length of time, without being treated, you would be very unwell by now.

People often post on here to ask if anyone else has had similar symptoms, but even if they have, it's important to bear in mind that it doesn't necessarily shed any light on what is going on with you.

We always encourage people who have persistent or develop new symptoms to go back and discuss this with their GP. Doctors are trained to assess symptoms and can arrange tests if they feel it’s necessary to try to find out what might be going on.

I hope you know more about your situation soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Celene

  • What does a movable lump mean or immobile how do you work out which is which and how hard or soft is firm ..

  • Mine literally moves freely under the skin back and for , I'm just worried as doctor says it's a cycst but been there for 3 years +!  It's not soft it's more soft and firm if that makes sense

  • Hello Bevdawn7,

When doctors are assessing lumps they take into account their size, location, consistency and mobility along with any symptoms someone is experiencing.

Mobility refers to how much a lump can be moved around - the term 'fixed' is used to describe lumps that are tethered and immobile so a mobile lump is the opposite and can be moved about a little but not necessarily a great deal.

I suppose deciding what is hard or soft is something that doctors acquire experience of after assessing lumps lots of the time.

I think it is best for anyone worried about a new and persistent lump to get checked out by the GP rather than trying to work out for themselves what it is.

You can call us if you want to talk anything over. Our Freephone number is 0808 800 4040 and we are around weekdays 9-5.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
