Is there anyone on rucaparib for ovarian cancer/ peritoneal

I have been told that as my cancer has returned that I will be on palliative therapy, the drug I will be given after my chemo if it is successful is rucaparib, is there anyone on this site who is taking this drug and if so is there many side effects? I'm also keen to know how long this drug could give me if successful

im getting quite anxious as I was old by my oncologist that my cancer is non curable,

  • Hello snippy and thank you for your post.

Rucaparib is a targeted treatment for women wth peritoneal and ovarian cancer.  You can read about how it works and the possible side effcts of taking it on our website here

I think when a new drug is offered there will nearly always be some concern about how it will affect the person taking it. Remember that while there are a list of possible side effects not everyone will develop them or people will get them at various degrees.  You will really only understand how it will affect you by taking it. Your specialist team will also want to see how it affects you and if there is any concerns about it causing more harm than good it could be stopped for a while or for ever.

I'm afraid that no one here can tell you what benefit you could get from taking it. Your specialist doctor may be able to tell you what they expect but even they will not know for sure, I think.

You might be able to read how other women having this tremantet have been, so if you post in another area of Cancer Chat (you can see these areas to the left of this page) you might get some replies to your post. However, how anyone responds to treatment is unique to them but it might be helpful to hear about how other people experienced it.

I hope this has been of some help. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
