Mike on stomach

I have a mole on the upper of my stomach I've had it for what seems like forever but I've noticed it's two colours and had ragged boards. I have a history of many cancers in my family but am only young. What should I do.

  • Hi Daisy, I am no expert, but I would recommend you see your doctor, if necessary he will refer to dermatology at your local hospital. I had a very similar mole, Which appeared just as my husband was diagnosed with cancer. I at first thought it was stress related but it was worrying me so much that I saw my doctor, he didn't think it was serious but because he could see I was stressed by it, he referred me to dermatology. I had an appointment on a Sunday!! Excellent service. The lady consultant gave it a good look over with a special eyeglass. Said she thought it was a wart of some sort, prescribed cream and booked me in to have it cut out and biopsied in December. In the mean time it has completely disappeared. I have cancelled the appointment for the minor surgery.

my advice is get it checked out with your doctor and take it from there.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I’m afraid we are unable to diagnose or advise what the matter might be.

Moles are common and the majority are harmless but they should always be checked out if they change shape or colour. This does not always mean that anything serious is wrong but they should be checked just to be on the safe side.

The best thing to do is to make an appointment to see your GP. They may suggest that you send them a photograph of the area of concern. If they feel that it needs further investigating they may refer you to a dermatologist.

I hope you know more about your situation soon. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
