I appreciate you asking this question but I'm afraid it's not possible to say how long someone with advanced cancer may live for as we are not involved in their clinical care.
This is a question best answered by their specialist team because they will know so much more about their individual situation. Doctors base their assessment of someone's outlook/prognosis on their experience of looking after other patients with the same cancer. This will vary to a degree, depending on a person’s age, extent of their cancer, their general health and their response to cancer treatments.
I'm not sure if this person has been referred to the local palliative care or Macmillan team either by their GP or hospital team. They are experts in providing emotional support for you all as well as being specialists in symptom control so that they can control theirs symptoms as and when they develop them and make them more comfortable. They will be able to help you understand what is happening and discuss their outlook.
