What is classed as mid cycle bleeding please?

In 2010 I has very mild abnormal cervical smear results nothing happened just asked to have more regular smears. My last one was a few years ago and they said the results are fine but would like me to have yearly smears, long story short I got pregnant and not had one for about 2 years now because of covid and the pregnancy.
I'm now 7 months post birth and my periods came back to normal (how they were before my consultant said as long as they are normal for me not to worry and discharged me).
Normally I get spotting three days in the run up to my period but this month I've had six days of spotting already and four days left until my period is due. Spotting started on day 23 of my usual 31 day cycle, This is the longest I've had spotting before my period for.
there's very little when I wipe but throughout the day I need to wear a pad.
Do you think this is classed as mid cycle bleeding? I've had so many gynea problems in the past but nothing has even been found and my last constant appointment made me feel like I was causing a fuss over nothing, is this worth flagging or sounds normal?
I know if I go back to my gp she'll just refer me back to the gynea consultant again so just want general advice here first.

Thank you

  • Hello there

I am sorry to hear you have had some gynae issues over the years and appreciate how unsettling this must be for you.

Irregular bleeding or mid cycle bleeding is different for every one as we are all different and what is normal for one person varies for someone else, so it is about you knowing your body. Women often experience the odd blip to a cycle caused by various factors but when this is ongoing or worsening this should ideally be checked out by your GP, or if you remain worried.

If you are also due your cervical screening I would also advise you to get this booked in with the nurse for your own peace of mind.

You can read about irregular bleeding here.

    I hope this helps

    All the best

    Naomi
