Blood cancer

Hello,

My blood results came back with low folate levels so I've been prescribed folic acid and high levels of eosinophils in my blood, what could this mean? I haven't had an infection nor am I allergic to anything.

i have an ultrasound and biopsy on 31st, next Monday so the waiting game is scary.

would they only do a biopsy if they suspect cancer? Before my bloods came back they said I'd have an ultrasound and now it's changed to ultrasound guides biopsy following my results.

why could this be?

thank you x

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your situation and appreciate waiting for tests and not knowing the causes of symptoms can be an anxious time and hopefully you will know more soon.

As nurses we cannot diagnose or say what the matter is i'm afraid. There are so many different causes for abnormal blood results which is why it is the doctors job to assess you and any symptoms you have. Then they are in the best position to arrange any further tests needed to build up the picture and get the answers about what may be going on.

It sounds like you are in good hands and have an ultrasound and biopsy next week which hopefully will give some more information. An ultrasound is a very useful test to check out lumps but if needed a biopsy ( sample of the lump) can also be taken to confirm what the lump is made up of to diagnose or rule out cancer.

Try and sit tight for now, unfortunately no one will be able to say what is going on until the ultrasound and biopsy results are in but do remember there still could be a cause other than cancer.

    Wishing you all the best

    Take care

    Naomi
