  • Hello Leanne and thanks for your post

I'm sorry to read about your dad's situation. This must be a difficult time for you both.

You can read more about how advanced oesophageal cancer may be treated here.

People often experience a whole range of emotions when they’re going through cancer. And relatives often go through similar emotions. There’s really no right or wrong way to feel. But we know that talking can often relieve some of the distress and anxiety.  There's some useful advice on Macmillan Cancer Support's website on coping when a relative has cancer and you can look at this by clicking here.

We have some information on our website about cancer and emotions and tips for ways of coping which you can read at this link. It is written for people with cancer but can also be useful to relatives as well.

Macmillan Cancer Support have information on looking after yourself and how to access support as a carer here.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
