Lymphoma?

I have a swollen lymph node in my armpit that is quite large, painful and red. I was given antibiotics to clear up infection but the lymph node is still swollen and sore. Doctor said not to worry you but it could be possible lymphoma. Since then I have searched symptoms of lymphoma and have no other symptoms other than a swollen lymph node in my armpit. I have had difficulty sleeping because I am so worried. Doctor has done a blood test for a full blood count and I am yet to receive results for this. On google when searching lymph nodes everything comes up with cancer or lymphoma.

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

Undergoing investigations can be very unsettling but try if you can not to look things up on google. Everyone's situation is very different and it is impossible to diagnose yourself using a search engine.

The GP normally starts with blood tests and then may suggest an ultrasound of the lump if it does not appear to be going down. An ultrasound is the gold standard for looking at lumps and helps establish what is causing them. Lymph glands are very common and can go up and down when an infection has been present or if you have been getting over something.

Sometimes lumps can take a while to go down.

GP's have guidelines when someone presents with a swollen lymph gland but I can understand that it can be frustrating waiting to find out the results.

I do hope that you know more soon.

If at any stage you want to ring and talk things over with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are more then welcome to do so.
