I am sorry to hear about your irregular bleeding and pain you are experiencing and appreciate it is a worry. But I'm afraid no one here can say what this is being caused by and it is important to see your own GP about this.

Symptoms can be caused by so many different things but most of the time won't be the result of something as serious as cancer, so please try not to worry or over think this for now.

As you say breastfeeding often ceases periods and then once it does return it can take a while to settle down to a regular pattern. Irregular bleeding is often linked to hormone levels and changes as mentioned here that settles with time, however if it persists or you are experiencing other symptoms alongside it should be checked out.

Your GP can assess and examine you to make sure everything looks okay and if needed can arrange more tests, so please don't delay and get in touch with your surgery. The sooner you do hopefully the quicker they will be able to reassure you and put your mind at ease.
