can chest x-ray see lung cancer

been having coughing on and of was sent for x-ray wud this see a cancer of the lungs.

  • Hello Amanda_L and thanks for posting,

Most lung cancers are diagnosed as a result of something that doesn't look right on a chest X-ray, but no test can be perfect all of the time.

Doctors interpret test results in context, that is taking note of someone's symptoms, age and other health problems.  If your chest x-ray comes back ok and the cough persists then do talk things over with your GP. Coughs can occur for a number of reasons, for example acid reflux from the stomach which can irritate the back of the throat, so keep an open mind about it.

If you want to talk anything over please give us a call on Freephone  0808 800 4040, we are around weekdays 9-5.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
