Question

Hey, I've got feelable submandibular, submental and cervical 1/2 inch lymph nodes. I've had them for over 2 years and they've never changed. I'm slim too. There moveable and I also have no infection. I've been told that these nodes may be normal lymph nodes, so does that mean my nodes are benign and swollen but normal, or does it mean my nodes are not swollen and normal? I've also read that lymph nodes above 1cm are also considered Milligant too? I'm overthinking that I may have something such as lymphoma that's why I'm looking for some reassurance. Would this even be common amongst slim people?

I've also told doctors about my nodes being feelable and they've responded by saying "there normal lymph nodes" but I've read that that means the nodes are benign meaning there's no Cancer cells in the lymph node but why it still be feelable for 2 years?

  • Nope, depending on where the nodes are, depends on what's considered normal. Some nodes are considered normal up to 2cm. Plus without an ultrasound you have no real way of knowing the exact size. Some can feel larger than they actually are.

When nodes enlarge due to infection, it's very common for them to remain palpable for life to some extent. A lot of folk have palpable nodes. The fact you're also thin means you have a higher chance of feeling nodes too. Can almost guarantee you, if someone searched enough, they'd probably feel a node here or there.

The nodes you are mentioning are common places for normal enlargement. As they enlarge with common sore throat issues, past tooth issues etc.

  • Hello Greer2204

We have responded to a number of posts from you with very similar questions.  And I think you may have been a member of Cancer Chat before with similar questions. We cannot shed any further light on this for you.  This is clearly something that is on your mind and causing you worry so we would strongly suggest that you speak to your GP about how much you are worrying about this issue.

    I hope that helps

    Take care
