Oncotype dx wait times

Hello

my wife had surgery on 5th sept with a follow up appointment on the 29th.

we were told both hormone therapy and radio were a definate but her results wernt back from america yet to see if she needs chemo. its obviously now 6 weeks since surgery and still nothing back yet.

She can deal with the known but the unkown and the waiting is really starting to affect her mentally.

Their own website staes 7-10 days and elsewhere 2 weeks. is it normal for hospitals to wait so long for these type of results? and what is the maximum time she should have to wait for post op treatment to begin?

thank you

  • Hi I had the Test done, I had to wait for my oncologist appointment to get the Result which was about a month after my surgery, you could phone your breast care team and ask for an update.

I had Oestrogen Fed Breast Cancer aswel I was diagnosed this time last year, I had a lumpectomy, my last chemo was the 24th April, radiotherapy in May now on Hormone tablets called Anastrole and prostap injections. It's all a waiting game, I actually found the waiting for the Onco score was the worst wait than all my results.

    Kindest thoughts Sarah

  • Hi,

I had my surgery on 18 July and my first appointment with oncology was 8 September, although I had spoken with one of the nurse specialists about a week or so before this so knew what my score was. My first round of chemo was then on 4 October.

Fingers crossed you have it back soon.

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I'm sorry that you are having these additional worries.

I'm afraid that all I can suggest is your wife calling her hospital team to speak to them. Maybe she has a specialist nurse (CNS) who can advise or update you both.

Take care and I'm sorry we are unable to advise further, but if you want to talk anything through please chat with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.

  • Hi Lee

I am hoping all progresses well with treatment.

I had read a bit about oncogene DX testing and if it's not too intrusive can you please tell me how you went about getting this test and the costs and process.

Am I correct in thinking the test predicts the probability of cancer returning using the genome?

Am I correct in thinking the test indicates which treatment is best for the breast cancer?

You can DM on here if that is easier.

    Thank you
