Unusual smell re lymph node removal side

I had surgery for breast cancer tumor removal and sentinal lymph node with cancer cells (and 3 other lymph nodes).  This was 6 months ago, and the smell from the armpit in that side is horrid, totally different from the uneffected side. I am not sweating more, even when there is no sweat, the smell is sickly. I just wondered if anyone had any idea why this is, and if it is nornal.

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to hear that you had surgery for breast cancer.

I'm afraid that I cannot explain why you have this smell. I wonder if your wound has healed? I ask this because sometimes an infection can smell.

The best thing to do is to mention it to your breast cancer nurse or leave a message about this on their phone.

I hope you will be okay. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
