pea sized rolling lump in neck

I'm so worried as I have just felt this little ball in my neck when I put my fingers over it it rolls around a bit or it might just be the skin over it I recently had a cold and have recovered no longer have it but it's still there I'm really hoping it's a lymp node but I don't know it's so hard to book doctors appointments I'm only 16 and I'm really concerned does anyone know

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I’m sorry you are worried about a lymph node. Try not to worry lumps and bumps can appear for lots of different reasons and most of the time won't be caused by anything as serious as cancer, especially at your young age. However it is worth getting them checked out just to be sure, so it would be a good idea to make an appointment to see your GP.

Doctors are experienced at assessing symptoms and if they have concerns about your symptoms or are unsure about what the matter is they may run some further tests like an ultrasound, or refer you to see a hospital specialist if necessary.

You can read more about lumps here on the NHS website but generally lymph nodes are normally swollen because of a recent viral or bacterial infection and can sometimes be felt for several months after the infection has cleared.

I hope you know more about your situation soon.

    Kind regards,

    Vanda

  • Hey girl honestly don't panic I've been going through this for years and you've just mentioned you've had a cold so lymph nodes always swell due to infection xx

  • At your age, I used to get lots of lumps and bumps in the neck, and could even get my fingers around them so they felt like little balls. Nevertheless, if you feel concerned go and get it checked out.

  • Thank you so much is it normal for it not to be painful I went to a gp today they said it's most likely nothing serious but I don't feel any pain
