My dads

Set my dad is just had his first round of chemo and his on chemo tablets to,this started last week but now he last night got a sore throat and sore mouth and his legs are feeling horrible and he says he's really shivering l feels really I'll, five days ago. I saw my dad since then my two-year-old has got a cold well I think it's probably Teething? Is it the chemo making him or my son?! Like I am pretty sure it is not my fault, but he has lung cancer that's spread to his brain so he's acting off snappy angry screaming I am to blame for his symptoms but I can't help feel I have done nothing and it is this chemo? He is having chemo to make him comfortable only not to save him as he's to advanced

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your dad's situation. Try not to blame yourself for how your dad is feeling. When patient's have a lowered immunity from chemotherapy they can pick up infections very easily. It could have come from your son but it could also come from someone else. The symptoms could also be due to some of the side effects from the chemotherapy drugs.

The most important thing is to let someone know about your dad's symptoms. He should have the number to the chemotherapy helpline. It would be a good idea to ring and let them know how he is feeling as he may need a blood test and a course of antibiotics. If you have a thermometer then do take his temperature so you can let the nurses and doctors know what it is  when you ring.

If you can't get through to the chemotherapy helpline then do ring NHS111 or the GP

I do hope that you manage to speak to someone soon

If you want to speak to one of the nurses on the helpline at a later date then you are more then welcome to get back to us. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040.

    All the very best,

    Catherine

  • My dads got a sore mouth and throat now and no temp,he's being going around everywhere shopping for jackets in busy places pubs and cafes go for food and a coffee he never worn a mask, he's never at home Tbf also busy public transport, he's at the hospital today any way having tests before he's next chemo session, I am sure it was not us but you can't help play Blame game, thing is with dad as well is he don't want us knowing much about his treatment or anything as he's gone a little crazy thinks he will beat this and if that's was helping we are going along with it, with the mood swings we can't talk to him about the cancer unless he brings it up, very tricky at the mo with him

thank you so much for your reply
