Hard lump under the skin inside the vagina

Hi there.

Yesterday I went to see a doctor about a hard lump about the size of a pea inside my vagina. It's under the skin, and toward the back of the vagina. My doctor didn't seem concerned, she said my cervix looks clear but she wants me to go for tests, specifically for HPV and a cervical smear to learn more.

I can't book this for a couple of weeks (doctors are busy and she said five days after my period) but I just want to know if anyone else has had this?

Is it cancer? The lump is hard and painless (unless I try scratching it or moving it around) and it hasn't grown. But I can't stop worrying and I'm not sure what to do.

If she suspected cancer would she have done the two week referral for certain? I'm sorry I'm just lost and with my mother having had so many issues I feel very frightened.

If anyone's had this experience please reply.

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I don't know what the lump is inside your vagina but you have been seen and assessed by your GP and if they were concerned they would have referred you into the hospital system for more tests and investigations. Bartholin's cysts are common so this may be what the lump is.

It sounds Iike your GP wants to get you up to date with the cervical screening programme and do a smear which will look at your HPV status too. Information on the screening programme here.

Do try and not look for answers on google. Forum users will have their own experiences, so their situations could be quite different to yours.

    Take care,

    Sarah
