Hi,

I had to have a lletz with a 'top hat' procedure done 18 days ago and I've just come on my first period since having this done. The pain is unlike anything I've ever felt. It's unbearable. 

I don't know if this is normal? I've also been bleeding bright red blood since day 10 and I've had a strange smell (not majorly offence but almost like vinegar) ever since the procedure. I recently read that if yiu bleed bright red blood it's a sign of infection. Along with the mild cramping I've had since the procedure and my unbearable period, I don't know if I have an infection or if this is a normal part of healing? I don't want to take antibiotics unnecessarily but I don't know if I'm brushing aside what might be concerning?

Has anyone else had a lletz with a top hat excision and had a similar recovery?
