Hard lump under the interior skin of the vagina

I'm so scared, and I've turned to everyone I can but my doctor because getting appointments is impossible. No more than three weeks ago I found a hard lump under the skin of my vagina inside on the right side.

It doesn't hurt, or move easily, there's no bleeding from scratching it (I know I shouldn't do that but I'm scared) there's no itching, no classic signs of cancer (the bleeding/discharge/pain)

I just want someone to tell me that it's likely a cyst, as it's under the skin it's become hard. God I want it to be a cyst, I'm scared. I have a little kid and I'm now picturing leaving him behind (ridiculous I know but I overthink big time)

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear that you are worried.  Unfortunately, we can't diagnose you but the lump does sounds like it might be a Bartholin's cyst.  These are incredibly common non cancerous small lumps or cysts.  The NHS have written some information about them here.

    www.nhs.uk/.../

They can remain the same for ages but sometimes do get infected and become sore.

I would have a chat with your GP.  This is usually done by a telephone consultation.  They will be able to assess whether they need to see you to look at it properly.  It does not sound like like anything serious, but we would always say to anyone with new symptoms to get them checked out.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello Vanda,

It can't be the type of cyst you mention as that isn't where the lump is..the lump is a few inches inside the vagina on the right side under the skin. I'm very sure it's a cyst, it hasn't grown, and there aren't any other symptoms so I feel like I can wait for an appointment. Thank you for your reply.

  • Hi, I have found a similar thing. It’s a small lump but doesn’t move and it in a similar place to where yours was. Could you please give an update on your situation as I can’t find any information on the web about this. It would be much appreciated.

  • Hello,

You have posted on a thread post that is over 3 years old now, so it is unlikely that the original forum member will reply to you.

If you have concerns about any lump, then seek the advice of your GP, as forums aren't meant to diagnose or replace medical advice. Most concerns are not cancer, and easily explained, but it makes sense to et checked out for peace of mind.

    I hope this helps,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda

  • Thank you for replying. I have been to the GP but they didn’t know what it was and to just keep an eye on it. I came across this post and thought I’d see if I got a reply as it’s very similar.
    thank you for replying.
