Biopsy Results

I found a lump in my breast almost 2 weeks ago. I went to my GP the day after finding it and my GP confirmed that I had a lump, he refered me to the breast clinic. I was seen within 3 days at the breast clinic after the referal. They gave me a scan and confirmed a lump. They then carried out a biopsy. I was told it was not tissue and was a hard lump but they needed to check if it is benign by doing a biopsy. Other than this they didn't realy say much. I was then asked to book a follow up appointment for this coming Friday which I did. Today I received a phone call from the breast clinic saying that my results are in and my appointment will now be a telephone appointment rather than face to face, and they can not tell me my results. I'm not sure if this is protocol. I really don't know what to expect, is this what they do if its benign? So confused and can't help but worry. I'm sure it will be good news but can't help but worry at the same time.

  • Hello and thanks for the post,

Finding a lump and then waiting for results I know can be very stressful.

There may well be a policy at your breast clinic not to get your results from a receptionist over the phone.. I don't think that you can read anything in to the fact that they are ringing you up for an appointment on Friday.

Try if you can not to think the worse. Many lumps that are looked at in breast clinics are not cancerous but it is important that they find out what the lump is.

Keep yourself busy and your mind on other things so you don't worry about it all the time.

I do hope that it all goes well for you on Friday.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
