Bleeding after bcg therapy.

Hi all, i was diagnosed with a grade 3 non invasive bladder cancer in june 2020. I have been having bcg therapy which i have tolerated quite well, i have had 18 rounds upto now but have had a couple of hours of peeing blood after the last couple of treatments. Is it normal for these symptoms to get worse as you have more rounds?

  • My husband  found the side effects did become  worse as the treatments progressed

You  could always speak to your nurse just to let her know and maybe get reassurance

    Best wishes

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I'm sorry you are having concerns around side effects you are getting. Different people react in different ways to treatment, here is our information on BCG treatment.

Blood in urine can happen after treatment, but if you are concerned about the amounts or how long it is going on for it is best to just let someone in your hospital team know. Maybe you have a specialist nurse (CNS) you can contact and update.

Take care, and if you want to talk anything through with one of the nurses on our helpline the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040. The lines are open from 9am till 5pm, Monday to Friday.
