Lump in my 14 year olds neck

Hi everyone,

My daughter was diagnosed with ovarian cancer when she was 7 and underwent a lot of surgeries and chemo over the few years that followed. It was a long road but she came out the other end and is now 5 years post treatment! She came home last week and mention a lump in the side of her neck. Apparently it came up about 5 weeks ago, was painful for a few days and now is pain free but still there. I spot her touching it sometimes. Its not very large, pea size maybe. Because of her history I tend to over worry but is this something I should be going to the drs about?! Her original cancer spread to her lymph nodes and she had to have a lot removed. She is under the hormone department still due to a lack of 1 1/2 ovaries. (Just incase it's relevant). Thank you so much for any advise you can give. X

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about your concern for your daughter and I can appreciate you could be worried.

I'm afraid that we are not able to tell you if there is anything the matter so do go and get it checked out by the GP and make an appointment. If the GP is not sure what this is or has a concern your daughter may need to have a ultrasound scan.

I think even with your daughter's past medical history of ovarian cancer this still is unlikely to be anything serious, but do get it checked out to be sure.

I hope you know more about this lump soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
