Borderline stool test

I wanted to come on here to vent and hopefully settle my nerves. Abit of a back story, I had quite a traumatic birth with my soon and ever since day 2 of him being born experienced boating and feeling full. This was accompanied by some acid reflux and constant burping and passing of wind.
Immediately the gp said I had IBS but did some bloods and stool test. Both came back normal. Some months passed and I was still experiencing the same symptoms. We did another stool test and it came back as borderline. My gp said it's very common and there are lots of things that can compromise the test so to be sure I would need to repeat the test.
currently waiting for the results but I am so worried it's cancer. Naturally you always think the worst don't you. Im 30 with 2 young children and I can't focus. My anxiety is through the roof. Has anyone experienced anything similar.

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about the symptoms you have and appreciate waiting for test results can be an anxious time.

Hopefully you will know more soon and find out if further tests are needed. Symptoms can be the result of so many different causes and most of the time it won't be cancer, even more so when you are young so try and hang in there for now and see what the stool test comes back as.

If needed the doctor will arrange more tests to get more answers so do keep talking about the symptoms you have and anything else you may notice being different for you.

Whilst I can understand you wanting to hear other people's stories, the outcome could be very different from yours so it can be difficult to compare what happened to someone else and what will happen with you.

I hope everything is okay for you

    Take care

    Naomi

  • Hi Flo

I can sympathise with you on your stress levels as I'm in a similar position with waiting, and my symptoms of bloating, heartburn , chest pain, tiredness, gassy and change if bowel,  I already have ibs.

My stool sample results are in but no discussions on the results as the doctor wants to run blood tests then discuss all the results together it been 3 weeks now but go monday for bloods and telephone chat with doctor then to find out both results. Going out my mind with worry.

Sending big hugs to you and that the both of us that we get the all clear.

Fingers crossed, let me know how you get on. Xx

  • Hi DidI

Thats so odd that your doctor hasn't discussed your results with you if they are in. How long do you have to wait? All your symptoms are the same as mine except the tiredness and change of bowels.

These are all symptoms of IBS. Did you experience these before your diagnosis of this?

Stress plays such a big part on our bodies and I keep telling myself. Im sure we don't have anything to worry about.
i also had my l bloods done and they were fine. I should have my results back early next week so I'll keep you posted

in the meantime try not to worry. If it was anything urgent regarding your stool  your doctors wouldn't withhold that sort of information for so long.  When you do stools they normally do bloods too so it's most likely just standard procedure x

  • Hi Didi

How are you? And how are you getting on?

i had my follow up app today and they still don't have my stool results back after over a week. As you can imagine my anxiety is going through the roof. She has meNtioned that if they come back borderline again I will have to have further tests to be sure but " it could be so many things" and not to worry.
easier said than done isn't it

  • Hi,

I understand your feelings of worry.  I am in a similar place, after months of groin pay and seeing lots of doctors with no answers, but GP did a FIT test.  It came back positive and now I am waiting for appointment for Colonoscopy.  To say I am in a panic is an understatement.  Worried that the groin pain is due to bowel cancer spreading, which I guess would be very bad.

Waiting for the phone to ring with appointment time is really killing me.

  • Aw try not to worry to much. Traces of blood in your stool doesn't necessarily mean anything to sinister. Try to keep your mind busy and not think the worst. I'll be thinking of you and let me know how you get in. Sending love
