Colonoscopy

Hi

I have an appointment for the 5/10/22 to see the consultant. The last three days l have had a back ache which won't go away. I am working myself up again, any advice. I have been taking paracetamol but they haven't worked. I am going away the weekend, should I be worried?

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you are currently undergoing some tests for some symptoms and are due to see the consultant next week.

Waiting and not knowing what is causing symptoms can be a worrying time and hopefully you will find out more soon.

Symptoms can be caused by an array of different things and even when there are red flags or warning signs it won't always be caused by a cancer.

Unfortunately no one here can say what the back pain is down to and there is a chance it is totally unrelated to your other symptoms, so try not to over think things for now. If it came on suddenly it may be a strained muscle or ligament from over exerting yourself or sitting or lying in a funny position.

Paracetamol doesn't work for every ache or pain so I don't know if you are able to take ibuprofen or another type of anti inflammatory medication but it may be worth a try or ask your local pharmacist for their advice.

If you are anxious about going away and the pain is unbearable do try and contact your GP or call NHS 111 if out of hours or in an emergency to see what they suggest.

I hope this pain eases soon and that your appointment goes well next week.

    Take care

    Naomi
