Am I overreacting

Yesterday I noticed a red mark near my elbow on my right arm. It looked like a popped blood vessel. I started experiencing pain in the arm later on when I moved it.

I had a blood test today since I've been having period problems and lost a lot of weight without trying. The nurse tried my right arm first and the blood didn't come out. I don't understand why? Could this be linked to the mark or the pain?

The nurse then tried my left arm and said if blood doesn't come out of this arm, someone else will need to come in. Thankfully the blood came out. But this makes me wonder if something's wrong with my right arm.

I have an appointment with my GP on Friday. Is this worth mentioning or am I just overreacting and should stick to only talking about my period problems and weight issues?

  • I'd mention everything. It's better to have all the possible info just in case. Let us know how it goes on Friday.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

It can sometimes be trial and error to get blood from someone's arm so I wouldn't read too much into not getting blood from the arm you are concerned about. This is just a coincidence and nothing to be overly worried about.

There can be many reasons for symptoms and most will settle down over time. It's good you have an appointment to discuss your symptoms with your GP on Friday. Doctors are trained to assess symptoms and can arrange tests if they feel it’s necessary to try to find out what might be going on.

I hope everything turn out to be okay.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Thank you. I ended up calling 111 as I got too worried in the morning and they booked a gp telephone appointment.

I answered and explained what happened and the GP booked a face to face appointment for 4:30pm.

Unfortunately the arm pain got worse and then I started getting chest pain at 1:30pm. I watched the time and when it got to 10 minutes, I told my lecturer (she already had a bad day since one student went home with earache at the morning and another went home with ankle pain) and she took me away and called 111. Thankfully the lecture was just about to finish so I'm glad it didn't happen while I was on the train home.

I went to hospital and had all the scans for my chest and thankfully they didn't find anything wrong. That is a relief.

I hope my arm is okay aswell. My blood didn't come out my right arm again in the blood test. I'm guessing the GP appointment I missed today won't be rescheduled so I think I'll wait until Friday to see if the pain's still there.

I hope all my symptoms don't end up being anything serious. It feels weird because I never used to get ill but now I feel like I have one problem after another.
