Single duct excision

Hi all,  after recently bleeding from my right nipple I was referred to hosp & then had a single milk duct removed on 15th Aug, so 6 weeks ago today.  Thankfully the operation went well & my biopsy was clear.  My recovery went well until a couple of weeks ago when I had brown runny fluid coming from the bottom of my wound(not nipple end).   I had no pain at all so left it a couple of days but it happened again & I also now had discomfort so I went to my GP.  I was given 5 days antibiotics.   It appeared to have done the trick.  However on Wed last week I started to have a pulsing pain in my nipple I also had a small amount of white/yellow discharge from my nipple.  I again went to my GP who done a swab of the area & I am now on an antifungal antibiotic to see if that helps while awaiting the swab result.  The pain is not as bad as last week but I feel disomfort even just walking around.   I just find it strange that I had no pain at all & wound was healing well for a few weeks after my op and then all this started.

You think its just an infection taking its time to go?

Anyone else have these issues??

Many thanks for any advice

  • Hello M and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about the pain that you are feeling. it does sound like an infection that is taking a while to heal. Infections can be uncomfortable and sometimes it can take a while to get on top of them.

You probably need to wait for the results of your recent swab and then if it does not appear to have cleared up I am afraid it is a question of making another appointment with your GP.

You have posted in ask the nurses but you may find that if you post on a different thread that you may get more replies.

I do hope that it gets better soon.

    All the Best,

    Catherine

  • Hi [@Mags17]‍

I had exactly the same experience as you. I had no pain at all following surgery, was really surprised.  Then 5 or 6 weeks later I got an infection which they game me cream for but it got worse so ended up on antibiotics.

Mine still gets tingly now but no longer infected.

Hopefully your swab comes back soon and they get to the bottom of it for you but just wanted to reassure you that it happened to someone else.

    X
