Prostate cancer bleeding blocks catheter

Hi, my dad has an enlarged prostate (160g!) and is due  biopsy on weds (suspected cancer, not bph). He needs a catheter, but recently there's been a lot of blood and clots which block the catheter and he has to go into a&e which is very traumatic. Is there a better a solution than just waiting for the catheter to block and going to a&e. Any treatment unlikely to start for 3 weeks, and can't face 3 weeks of regular a&e visits with 12 hour waits whilst his bladder is full to burst. Help?

  • Hello NickyBeau and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to learn about this bleeding and the problems it is causing.

I can understand you asking, but I am not sure if there is an easy solution although it would probably to be a good idea for your dad to drink plenty, but I expect he is doing this already. I think your dad needs to talk to his urology team about this on Wednesday to make sure they know this is happening and get some advice from them. I hope they can help .

Give us a ring if you want to talk anything over. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here from 9-5, weekdays.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
