Bleeding after TOC smear

Hi all! bit of a long one, so sorry for the TMI lol

Bit of background: I'm 29 years old ill be 30 in a november, my second smear in sep20 came back abnormal HPV positive with a borderline change a colposcopy biopsy upgraded to CIN1 but as per guidelines I was told to return for a smear in 12 months, this smear turned back HPV low grade dyskaryosis however the colposcopy biopsy returned CIN3 and I had a LLETZ treatment under GA 6 month ago

I went for my TOC smear on Wednesday and what started as spotting/bloody discharge has turned into a full on flow with small clots, cramping and gushing not heavy enough to be changing every hour but its bordering it seems to be getting heavier by the day, I finished my period last Sunday so I'm not due on.. smears in the past were a little uncomfortable and there was always some blood on the 'spatula' never enough to spot or have odd coloured discharge afterwards, this time I'd felt a sharp pain like the nurse had jabbed me with it instead of a 360 swab lol i guessed it would be more sensitive with the scar tissue

I only know one other person who has had a LLETZ treatment and that's my mother, her bleeding was more of a coloured discharge and only lasted a few hours.. I am going to making an appointment with the GP on Tuesday if it carries on, surely this isnt normal? just looking for some advice or if anyone has had this on their TOC smear

Thanks

  • Hello and thanks for posting.

I'm sorry you are worried about this bleeding, but I don't know what may have caused it. Some people do have bleeding and discharge after smears, but if you are still having a problem with it then it would be best to contact your GP or colposcopy unit to get checked out.

Take care and hopefully you will know more soon.

    Sarah.
