HRT question post oestrogen receptor positive breast cancer?

Hi, not strictly cancer related but I had Oestrogen + BC about 20 years ago.age 36 I had early menopause at 43 and now have osteoporosis spine and hip. I'd like to try HRT as it might help the osteoporosis and I have been suffering menopause symptoms for years, ie anxiety, depression, hot flushes, weight gain. Is HRT an option

  • Hello and thank you for your enquiry, and I'm sorry you have had problems with menopausal symptoms.

Unfortunately I don't know if HRT is an option for you, please do discuss this through with your GP or breast specialist as they know you and your situation better.

I have though provided here some information which may be of interest.

This first link is about alternatives to HRT that have been used if you are unable to be prescribed it.

This is second link is about living with breast cancer and menopausal symptoms

The third link is to the Breast Cancer Now (the UK's breast cancer charity) forum where other women often come together to share their experiences which may be useful to you.

Take care, and I'm sorry we have been unable to answer your question , but it does need to be a discussion to have with your doctor. If you want to talk things through please do call our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040, and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
