Swollen gland

Hello

i've had a swollen gland in my neck for well over a year. I've had a cough that came along with it (and extreme tiredness) - had chest xray and various breathing tests at the hospital that came back clear, and since have heard no more from the gp/hospital about the gland/cough! The last time I spoke to a health care professional about these was last year (i think!). However, i've now started reacting very badly to alcohol in the last few months - where I used to be able to drink an unreasonable amount and be absolutely fine, now 2-3 doubles leaves me nauseous, stomach pain and on occasions throwing up. I'm quite worried as when I've searched around alcohol intolerance, hodgkins lymphoma has come up.  I just wanted to know if anyone had any knowledge or advice they could offer me. I will ring my gp i think, I just dont want to take up their time unnecessarily as i know how busy they are. Thanks

  • Hi Zocas95 and thanks for posting.

Unfortunately as a nurse led support line we are not able to tell you what the matter might be.  You have mentioned making a GP appointment, which would be useful as they would be able to examine you and see whether you needed any further investigations.

You could also discuss the swollen gland and whether your other symptoms are still there.  You mentioned that you had some tests last year which came back clear, but if you still have symptoms your GP may want to repeat some tests.

I hope this is helpful, but if you would like to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline please give us a call on Freephone 0808 800 4040.  The lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take Care

    Rachel
