Left Rib pain post colon cancer surgery

Hi there, I had colon resection surgery at the end of June this year. I've just started getting pain back under my left rib like a sharp stabbing pain. I had this prior to being diagnosed with colon cancer. I am waiting to see a consultant post surgery which was due to be the end of this month but we have moved away and I don't know how long it will take for me to be assigned a new consultant in Scotland.  Has anyone else had pain like this return? I'm not sure if it is surgery related pain or Gastritis pain as I was originally diagnosed with that prior to finding out I had cancer. Many thanks in advance for any advice.

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear about your need for surgery earlier this year and that you are experiencing some pain now that is concerning you.

Whilst I'm afraid no one here can tell you the exact cause of this pain, it could well be gastritis like you say. I would suggest whilst you are waiting for your consultant follow up that you speak with your GP so they can assess you as to what the matter might be.

I hope things improve for you soon and wish you all the best.

Do get back if you have more questions or you are welcome to call our helpline on 0808 800 4040, mon-fri 9-5 if you prefer.

    Take care

    Naomi
