Returning to work. Worried!

Hi all,

Im just wondering if how I feel is normal or not. Im not due to return to work til the 23rd having had the results of the grad 1 breast cancer and sentinal node biopsies on 22nd. Im due to work the Fri 23rd , 24th,  25th, 26th then am off for 2 days.

I feel as if Im making a meal out of returning to work as my colleagues are like a family and worked together for years and know each other so well.

I was going to ask GP to sign me off til 27th.

Does anyone else feel like this cause I feel as thou I should be able to go back to work when Im due to .

Just beginning to have a wobble which is unlike me.

Many thanks

  • Hi,

    I've just read your post,

Only you can decide when the best time to return to work is and that is when you are ready, don't put too much pressure on yourself.

If you need more time off take it.

I'm in a completely different part of my journey than you are, I am still awaiting my emergency 2 week referral (its been a month already with no contact/appointment). I feel like I am struggling, but I am holding on as long as I can.

If you want a chat. I'm here x

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

It is understandable that you may feel anxious returning to work and I am sure that you are not alone.

Hopefully nearer the time you may change your mind but in the meantime you could contact your manager or HR and explain your situation. You may find it helpful to go back gradually and have a bit of a phased return.

Breast Cancer Now have some information on their website about going back to work which you can see here

You have posted in 'ask the nurses' but if you post in another thread you may find you get more responses from others who have gone back to work.

If you feel like you would chat through any of this with one of the nurses on the helpline then you are more then welcome to give us a ring. We are here from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, Freephone 0808 800 4040.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
