Changeable Lump in the Labia Minora

Hello,

So I found a lump in the labia minora region a few weeks back now.  And yes, like everybidy else I did a lot of Google seaching.

Anyway, it's still there, albeit different.  When I first noticed it, it was bigger and angrier than it is now and it was pretty itchy. Naturally, I examined it and gave it a little squeeze.  Sorry to be graphic here, I have squeezed what looks like a watery puss out of it on two occasions, and it did bleed a little.  I then stopped prodding and poking it becasue I read that if it is a particular cyst, then they are highly infectious.  Then I thought, if it was one of those, then surely I'd have more down there then?

Anyway, it has never hurt, it's not sensitive to touch or anthing and you can only really see it if I stretch the skin out.  It looks lighter in colour than the rest of the area.

Any thoughts?

I do have a telephone call booked with my GP booked but it's not until the 19th Sep, I rung them when I first noticed the lump so a few weeks ago.  I did ask for a face to face but they just couldnt fit me in anytime soon!  They told me to go with the telephone call first, its better than nothing.

Regards,
Ems

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I'm afraid I don't know what maybe the matter, but that does not mean that it is necessarily something serious like cancer. It may be something like a Bartholin's cyst

Until you speak to a doctor, who will bring you in for a review if still needed, nobody is going to be able to say.

Unusual symptoms can cause lots of anxiety, particularly when waiting for appointments. But keeping distracted and your mind busy until you speak to the doctor, is the only way of helping time pass. Do try and stay off google if you can, as it can cause more stress.

    Take care,

    Sarah.

  • Thank you so much for your reply,

Aren't Bartholin cysts generally found near the opening on the vagina though, or can they also be found else where?

I should have said that my lump is by the clitoris.

    Regards,

    Ems

  • Hello Ems and thanks for your further post

Yes Bartholin cysts are generally found inside the opening on the vagina, They can sometimes affect the outer pair of lips surrounding the vagina (labia majora).

However, as my colleague Sarah said we are unable to diagnose what the matter might be. Only a doctor can make a medical assessment, so we always encourage people to make an appointment with their GP if their symptoms are persisting. Doctors are trained to assess symptoms and can arrange tests if they feel it’s necessary to try to find out what might be going on.

I hope you know more about your situation soon.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
