Had a CT scan 5/8/22 with iv contrast, after complaining about abdominal pain, mostly bowel area, scans came back clear, why would a consultant suggest this type of scan when I'm reading it's not the best alternative?

Hello and thanks for the post,
I am unable to tell you the answer to that. There can be any number of reasons why different tests are chosen but as I am not involved in your care I don't know the answer. It could be that it was the quickest test to arrange if the doctor wanted to get on and find the cause of your pain.
If you have a follow up appointment do ask the consultant why this test was chosen. Sometimes a variety of tests are used to work out the cause of symptoms.
I do hope that you find out more soon.
if you feel that it would be helpful to ring and discuss any of this with one of the helpline nurses then you are more then welcome to do so. Our number is freephone 0808 800 4040.
Best Wishes,
Catherine
Hi Catherine thank you for replying, I'm having a colonoscopy procedure today at 13:45, had a great morning with Plenvue as you can guess!
I was in A&E last Sunday with pain again and the doctors reasurred me the scans results were good, only reading the leaflet that was posted, saying CT scan was not a great alternative, sent my anxiety levels sky high, so now getting very nervous and brain fogged up, had 3 lots of bloods which all came back good ALT though always up and down l, with this doctors have told me to stop worrying.
Regards
Pete
