MRI

Hi,

So, I guess im just worried and could be worrying for nothing.  I lost my mum in february.  Ive been struggling with this pain in my head for sometime. Headaches most mornings.. the GP referred me for a MRI . they said the waiting time is 4 weeks. If it was a tumour would i get results sooner???

Im sure im just stressing for nothing.

  • Hello

I am so sorry to read about your mum, this must be such a difficult time for you.  Often when things like this happen it does make us more vigilant about our own health and it is good to read that you are getting your headaches looked into.  There can be many different explanations for head aches and usually it is not cancer, but it is always good to get anything that is unusual for you checked out.

From your post I wasn't sure whether you were waiting 4 weeks for the MRI or had already had it and were now waiting for results which you expected to be in 4 weeks time.  It is difficult for us to comment on what waiting times would be like to have your MRI analysed by a specialist and then to give you the results.  But often if something that needs immediate attention is noticed they will try to bring appointments forward or contact you.

It is very difficult waiting for results of tests, but most head aches will turn out to be caused by something other than cancer so try and keep an open mind.

    I hope that has helped

    Martin

  • Thank you for the reply.  I appreciate it. I had the MRI over a week ago. Sadly this pain in my head is getting worse and to be honest it doesnt feel like a normal headache . Im so tired and just feel like something is wrong....

  • Thank you for your further post,

I can understand how unsettling it can be waiting for results. As Nurse Martin said there can be many different explanations for headaches to occur and most will not be caused by cancer. Anxiety about your MRI results may also not be helping.

If however you feel that your symptoms have got much worse then do let your GP know.

I do hope that you know more soon.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
