Borderline ovarian tumor

Hello I had a single ovary and fallopian tube removed 11 years ago during a c section due to a huge borderine ovarian cyst. I have been having regular checkups and kept being asked about completion surgery but I wasn't ready psychologically to have it. My other ovary has always been nornal on scans too. I have now decided as I am perimenopausal at 46, it is sensible to have the surgery to reduce the risks of it coming back. My family is complete. I was wondering if anyone had waiting a long time to have the completion surgery and how the recovery was as I have had 3 sections now?. I am the fittest and healthiest I have been and the menopause symptoms really concern me as I don't want low mood when I feel so well. I am prone to mood dips with hormones. I am also hypothyroid and appear to be sensitive to hormone fluctuations. I am not sure of the risks of it coming back if I don't have the surgery, but know it's the right thing to do.

  • Hello Ladybird99 and thanks for posting,

It sounds like you have decided what to do, but are feeling a bit unsure of how things will go with surgery and afterwards.

I am not sure if some else will come along and post, but as you say you are fit I assume you would recover well from surgery, even so it can take several months. Do talk this over with your specialist team when you have the chance.

There are strategies to help women cope with menopausal symptoms and if they become really troublesome you might be able to take HRT but you would have to check this out with the specialist team.

I assume the surgery will be to take away the remaining ovary, fallopian tube and womb.  If no one posts here on CancerChat you could try the forum on the Ovacome charity website

Please give us a ring if you want to talk anything over, the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are around weekdays, 9-5.

    Best wishes,
