Husbands bladder cancer

Hi everyone, we are from Durham and last August 2021 my husband was diagnosed with T1 G3 bladder cancer.

He has been having BCG treatment periodically over the past months, but for the past 4/5 weeks he has had 2 rounds of antibiotics due to a bacterial urine infection which makes his urine dark and extremely cloudy.

He never complains but he has been taking pain relief recently as he has been having stomach, low back and joint pain.

I know he must be feeling rough as he never takes painkillers but he seems hesitant to tell the Dr about these new pains.

Can anyone help me with what could be going on and if it is a normal for urine infections and this kind of discomfort to come with the BCG treatment.

thank you so much ️

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to hear about that your husband is going through treatment for bladder cancer.

Unfortunately having BCG can cause side effects for some people, this can be infection and aches and pains. However I think he or you should he lets his specialist team know about them.  If he has a cancer/ urology nurse specialist you or he could leave a message with them. I say this because he may need treatment such as antibiotics.

You can read more about BCG for bladder cancer on our website, it also lists the side effects it can cause, you can see them here

I hope this reply helps. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care

    Caroline

  • Thank you so much for your reply, it helps to just talk about things as we go along.

He has more antibiotics so hopefully they will sort it this time.

Really appreciate your help and advice ️
