Very sharp pain in left breast.

Hi,

Sorry.  I'm not even sure if I should be posting this here.

I've had a pain for around 10-12 weeks.  It's a sharp pain in my left breast behind the nipple.  It only hurts when pressure is applied so belly sleeping is now a no no and I struggle to carry things.  I believe the pain has got worse over the last week.  It's a really sharp pain, that makes me finch and hold my breath.  Definitely not the usual period type boob pain.  Sometimes I still feel a burning feeling afterwards.

The GP checked me over and agreed that the left breast does feel different to the right and referred me for a scan.  She said I would be seen within 2 weeks but that was 3 weeks ago and I still haven't been given a date.

I called to chase but they just told me that breast pain isn't usually a sign of cancer but I would be sent a scan date soon.

I have googled and googled but there doesn't seem to be anything relating to this kind of pain.

The waiting and not knowing is really affecting me now.  It's all I think about.

I guess what I really want to know is, is there anyone else here that's had breast cancer with this type of pain as a symptom or what else it could be.

Thank you for reading. Sorry for the essay.

  • Hello Toro8 and thanks for posting,

I am not sure if anyone else will come along and post, or if they do how much light it will shed on your situation,  but in general breast pain with no other symptoms isn't usually due to breast cancer. However not having an explanation for ongoing and noticeable symptoms can be unsettling and worry can get the better of anyone .

As your GP noticed that your left breast didn't feel quite the same as your right, I think it would be a good idea to try and speak to them about this, let them know you are still waiting to be seen at the breast clinic and get their input.

Try not to Google too much as it will keep any worry front of mind, distraction is probably a better strategy while you are waiting.

Give us a call if you want to talk anything over. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open weekdays 9-5.

    Best wishes,

    Julia

  • I have had pain behind the nipple caused by blocked milk ducts, they have caused problems for ages sometimes getting infected, or hard like wire l have had various ops that have proved not to be cancer. I hope you have a similar outcome
