2 week referral

My daughter is 21 and is waiting for an appt on the 2 week pathway . She has been having irregular bleeding in between periods. We have just phoned to chase the appointment but have been told it's weeks away from her being offered an appointment due to a long waiting list . I'm really worried now , has anyone else been on the 2 week pathway and how long was it before you were actually seen ? Any answers appreciated.
Thanks .

  • Hello and thanks for your post

Bleeding between periods can have a number of different causes and you can read more about this on the NHS website at this link.

The majority of people who are referred urgently to the hospital pre pandemic times were usually seen within 2 weeks. But some people are having to wait a bit longer than this as clinics are trying to deal with the backlog from the pandemic but they are trying to see patients as quickly as possible.  Unfortunately, no one is going to be able to tell you exactly what the average waiting time will be for your daughter to be seen at the hospital, as there will be some regional variations in different NHS Trusts.

If your daughter is worried about this she might want to contact the hospital and ask if she could go on a cancellation list and they may contact her if a slot suddenly becomes available at short notice. But unfortunately this is not guaranteed.

I hope your daughter hears something soon and that everything turns out to be okay. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Celene
