  • Hello RosieJen67 and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to learn that you are due to have more tests and can understand that waiting to have them is hard on the nerves.

I'm afraid I don't know how long you will have to wait for a colonoscopy, I think this depends on local NHS capacity as well as current waiting lists.

If you know which hospital you have been referred to, you could try calling the endoscopy department and see what they can tell you, or alternatively , try and speak to the GP again, let them know you are waiting and get their input.

I think waiting can feel easier when you have some idea of the time frame involved and I hope you can find something out.

Anxiety is challenging to cope with. Try and keep an open mind and take things one step at a time. Bear in mind that your symptoms might not all be related and that the same symptoms that can occur because of cancer can also occur for other reasons.

Give us a ring if you want to talk anything over.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are aroubnd weekdays, 9-5.

    Best wishes,

    Julia

  • Hi sorry about your symptoms and positive tests, you must be so worried!

You should call the hospital/ gp to find out how long you should wait.

I unfortunately live in an area where bowel referrals are at a record high and was told my wait should be 20-25 weeks. My symptoms got worse so I called the GP quite a lot of times and on the 15th week, they decided to move me on the 2 week pathway instead. Thankfully everything was fine and I just had internal haemorrhoids.

I suggest you also keep your GP updated if your symptoms get worse or if you get new symptoms.

    Hope everything turns out okay.

  • Thank you .

I spoke with the surgeon today

she is arranging a CT Scan and Colonscopy

Hopefully within the next 2/3 weeks as I've been

    red flagged..

my symptoms are getting more severe right sided

groin pain is horrendous my toilet issues have been

    horrendous

i never knew that back pain was associated with diverticulitis

    I was diagnosed in 2017

    I'm soo anxious I can't think positive

I feel I've let this go on too long over years

and I most likely have bowel cancer now as my dad

passed away with bowel cancer .

    I can't stop cryin I'm soo frightened

  • Hello and thank you for getting back to us.

At least now you have a better understanding of when the scan and colonoscopy will be carried out.  However, I know that this could still be a worry especially if you are in pain. Please know that if you are very worried or anxious that this could make your pain feel worse.

In the meantime you could speak with your GP about how you are coping and the pain you have.  You may find talking with friends and family can help you cope better.  Also trying to keep to a normal daily pattern as this could help keep your mind of this. Easier said than done sometimes.

I am sorry to hear about your dad dying of bowel cancer and I can appreciate that this could worry you about your risk.  For most families bowel cancer is not an inherited risk but do mention it to the specialist doctor when you see them.

You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
