I'm so sorry about your friend's devastating news, [@Jessieclaire80]. I'm sure the nurses will respond tomorrow but in the meantime you might find useful information here www.macmillan.org.uk/.../supporting-someone
It can be very hard to know what to do or say to support those affected by cancer. Your friend is very fortunate to have such a caring friend and I'm sure you'll be a great support to her.
Take care, Amy xx
Hello and thanks for your post
I'm sorry to read about your friends parents.
People often experience a whole range of emotions when they’re diagnosed with cancer. And family and friends often go through similar emotions. There’s really no right or wrong way to feel. But we know that talking and listening can often relieve some of the distress and anxiety. There's some useful advice on Macmillan Cancer Support's website on talking more openly about cancer and you can look at this by clicking here.
We have some information on our website about cancer and emotions and tips for ways of coping which you can read at this link.
It's important that you also look after yourself when supporting your friend. Macmillan Cancer Support have information on looking after yourself and how to access support here . It is written for carers but can apply to friends as well.
There are Maggie's Centres in certain parts of the UK that provide emotional support to people affected by cancer. You can find a list of centres here on their website.
I hope this is of some use .Give us a ring if you would like to talk things over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
Kind regards,
Celene
