Inverted Nipple

I went to my doctors a few days ago with a nipple inversion and I'm waiting for an appointment at a breast clinic to see if anything is cancerous. The question I wanted to ask was, can you feel lumps behind the nipple? I'm pretty sure I can feel one behind my right nipple which is the one that’s inverted but I can't feel anything behind the left nipple which is normal.

I don't know if it's a psychological thing or if you can genuinely feel a lump behind the nipple. I can't find any answers online and I don’t really know who to ask.

It does feel like a frozen pea.

So, is it possible to feel lumps behind the nipple?

  • Hi Riku,

we often find ourself during these types of situations doubting ourselves.

I'm quite sure it's possible to find or develop a lump anywhere in your breast, as with any lumps it could be a multitude of things. However if your mind is anything like mine it goes immediately to the dark place.

You are now in the system with your referral, the waiting is hard but you'll soon know either way. I'd say avoid google but I tell myself this and then find myself at 1am googling - can you wear knickers in surgery!

Just know your worries are valid and important, you are not alone.
    big hugs,

    Linda xx

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I think the nipple area can be difficult to assess for lumps.  You might be feeling a lump but I'm afraid I cannot say if there is one there. I think what is important to know is that you will be seen in the breast clinic by a specialist doctor. So it's probably a good idea to wait until then and not try to find lumps before then.

At this appointment you will have your breasts examined, have a mammogram and/or ultrasound scan of both your breasts. You will be told what the scans showed (the results)  and if you need to have a biopsy.

I hope your appointment goes well. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • hi i've also found a pea sized lump under my right nipple just under areola got referred yesterday so scared such a long wait to get seen hope your appointment goes well

  • Hi I have a solid lump behind my right nipple.  The direction of my nipple has altered.  Gp referred me to the breast clinic.  I had an mammory gramm, which never picked up the lump.  So I had  an untra sound, again, never picke up the lump. However the lump can be felt on examination.  So I had a biopsy taken, which  was my worst nightmare as I terrified of needles.  It was uncomfortable but really not too painful.  I have just received a message from breast clinic inviting me back to clinic, I assume find out the results of biopsy, 16.06.2023.  I was just wanting to see if there is anyone who has had a similar experience to me.  Really wanting to know what their outcome was.  I am scared and overthinking, in the dark side mostly.  Thanks for reading, be nice to chat x Nicole
