colonoscopy

i don't know if this will get posted by Sunday but I'm worrying frantically, I'm 17 and I have my colonoscopy on Sunday. my pain tolerance is awful and im worrying so so much. is there anything I can ask to get to ease the pain. im currently having panic attacks but im feeding my fear by reading these stories. any help would be much appreciated. TIA X

  • I'm not a nurse, but just wanted to weigh in here (especially as I'm not sure if the nurses are available at weekends) to say I had a colonoscopy last year and basically felt nothing. It might well be the same for you. Keep in mind that people who had bad experiences are more likely to post about them as there is more to say.

  • I had one in April. You are given a small amount of sedation - it doesn't knock you out but it means you don't feel a thing - some people even drift off and remember nothing of the procedure! You will be absolutely fine. Good luck.

  • Hi I've had 2 colonoscopy proceedures done in last year and never felt a thing they give you a tube to breathe on if any pain does start it's not a long procedure....the worst part of it is drinking the preoperative drink

  • Snap! I'm having one on Sunday too. Currently doing the prep. So, you can ask for sedation and also entinox (gas and air) which will definitely make you feel relaxed. Explain how you are feeling to them, they will try and make you feel at ease. Sending positive vibes to you!

  • Hello there

I am sorry we weren't able to get back to you sooner but hope the comments from other forum users helped and that all went well at the colonoscopy.

For most people a colonoscopy is a well tolerated procedure and I do hope this was the case for you.

Take care and if you you need to get back in touch please do, the nurses are here Monday-Friday but don't work weekends or bank holidays.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
