Bowel cancer symptoms and scared!

Hi

I'm 29 and since giving birth to my daughter just over 2 years ago I have been experiencing issues with my bowels.

After having my daughter it took me nearly 10 days to go for a poo, this was extremely painful and led to several issues including blood in my poo and painful constipation for quite a long period of time. Due to covid going on at the time they diagnosed me with hemorrhoids without seeing me and prescribed anusol. This didn't work and I continued to experience pain I let it go on for a few months before going back, they then diagnosed a fissure and gave me some cream. Again this didn't really help but the problem seemed to come and go so I just dealt with it.

About a year after i had a few bouts of painful constipation and again blood in my poo so they did am examination but couldn't see anything so said it was probably internal hemorrhoids and again gave me some cream and that was that.

The painful poo continued on and off again with blood intermittently.

Over the past few weeks I have been having a lot of blood everytime I have gone for a poo, bright red and the toilet bowl has been red as well as all over the tissue. I haven't found going to the toilet as painful but the blood is worrying.

I have booked an appointment with my doctor which is on Tuesday. But I am terrified now! If this is cancer chances are I've had it for 2 years which I'm guessing can't be good!!

Apologies for this long post but needed to get it all out of my system. Any help or advise appreciated.

  • Hello Kellie29 and thanks for posting,

I do understand how unsettling it can be to have symptoms that might be due to cancer, but remember bleeding can have a number of causes and cancer isn't the most likely explanation in someone of your age group - this is because it is a more common disease in old people.

Try not to over think it, keep an open mind and take things one step at a time.  I hope your appointment today goes well.

If you want to talk anything over, please give us a ring on Freephone 0808 800 4040, we are around weekdays 9-5.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
