Symptoms/advice

Hi!

it's the first time I've posted in this chat and was looking for some advice.... I'm 12 weeks post partum on the second daughter, in the last 4 - 6 weeks about once each week I have noticed a very small amount of blood after passing a stool, and one occasion a bit of mucus (sorry for the info!!) I've had no pain or discomfort, weight loss, no bowel/colon cancer in the family and no major changes in my pattern, maybe a slight change but nothing significant.

IM worried sick and ringing my GP in the morning for some advice..... am I over reacting? Also any advice on what the GP will suggest/tests/appointments that will follow?

thank you so much in advance!

  • Hi Amar, you are doing the right thing by calling your GP because even a small ongoig change is worth talking about also if you are 12 weeks post partum and had a difficult delivery it can sometimes take a little while for things to settle down. However don't leave it just to see if it settles, do call your gP. we get so worried about bothering them but that is what they are there for.

    all the best

  • Hello, and thank you for posting.

Congratulations on your new baby, but I'm so sorry you are having these worries at the same time.

It isn't unusual for the pressure of pregnancy and labour to cause small tears (fissures) or haemorrhoids in the bowel. These can both cause fresh blood in the stools.

This said, it's always best to let your GP know of any concerns you have. They are best placed to review you and decide if anything further needs to be looked into. They will also know what investigations to do if needed.

Take care, and I hope you know more soon.

    Sarah.
