Biopsy results/

I had an endometrial biopsy and was told by the healthcare provider that it would take 3 months for the results.  The explanation was that my test couldn't be considered as urgent.  Where can I find details on the guidelines that healthcare providers should try to adhere to in relation to pathology reports?  Thanks.

  • Wow I was informed 4/6 wait for my biopsy results, I'm nearly at the 4week mark now. Hope you can get answers sooner than 3 months.

  • I had mine done last Saturday and was told 7-10 days for my results!

  • I was phoned 2 days later! Thats does seem a long and cruel wait, maybe ask your GP to make a call? x

  • Thanks for your responses.  It is actually a repeat proceedure... The first proceedure produced insufficient sample.  The repeat should have been done Sep last year.  This time the samples were sat on the desk infront of me as I sat infront of the clinician after this most recent procedure. The clinician picked one up and said (when swirling the sample pot of my pink fluid toward the light), that they weren't sure sufficient sample had been taken, (again).  If not they would just assume I was OK, based on the hysteroscopy looking o.k.  My experience has been bad I am afraid in more than one setting.  In this case I am going to visit the hospital in person and ask why these results would take 6-12 weeks.  It's unheard of ! Thank you for your responses - it has helped.

  • Hello there

I am sorry for the delay in getting back to you but it seems others on the forum have been in touch with you.

It sounds like you have had quite a lot going on these past few months and I really do hope you know more soon so you can move forward.

In non urgent cases it can take 6-12 weeks for results to come back but I do appreciate after previous insufficient samples and delays this must be unsettling and frustrating for you.

Do speak to the hospital when you can

    All the best

    Naomi

  • Thanks Naomi,

The hospital today confirmed that they are short on people working in pathology.

The GP had suggested I have my womb removed for my symptoms and that I couldn't start HRT before having the results of these repeat tests.  I don't feel as though the hospital(s) have the time to talk and it's sad that we are left supporting each other on these forums.

My experience of health care for women's issues has not been good.

    Thanks for your help though.
