confused

hi,

recently found a lump in my boob that was quite big, didn't cause me any pain. managed to get seen to yesterday in a breast clinic, during my ultrasound they stated it was a cyst and that they would drain it and send off a sample of it to be tested. however when they tried to aspirate it, no fluid came out. they tried this several times poking and jabbing around my boob before they told me it was solid and possibly nothing to be concerned about, however there was also a bunch of smaller lumps like that around it too.

i was wondering if they should have done a biopsy since they couldn't get any fluid out? and if it's sometbing i should bring up or if i'm just being overly anxious about it.

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

An ultrasound is a very useful tool at looking at lumps and is a good way of assessing a lump and whether it needs any further investigations. I am sure that if they felt that your lump needed a biopsy then they would have done one.

The breast clinic will be writing to your GP and if you have concerns then do chat this through with your GP. Benign (not cancer) breast lumps are very common and 9 out of 10 women who are referred to a breast clinic are found not to have cancer. Breast Cancer Now have some information on benign lumps which you can see here

I hope this helps but if you remain concerned then do speak to your GP.

    All the best,

    Catherine
