Breast cancer reoccurrence!

Has anyone else had a double mascetomy and their cancer returned? I had cancer 9 years ago and underwent a double mascetomy and lymph node removal on the right arm. I started to have a heavy arm a few months back and it wasn't going down and found a risen node in my collar bone. Last week I was told it was a reoccurrence and I find out more tomorrow on the full results of the biopsy!

To be honest, im in shock right now that it's returned after 9 years and a double mastectomy! I was 30 at first diagnosis and turned 40 this March, has anyone survived this? I have a 5 year old now which makes this so... much harder to deal with.

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to hear your news and I can imagine that it must all still be sinking in.

I would try not to search for too much information until you know more about your own situation when you speak to someone today.

We do have some information on our website about different treatment that your doctors may consider when your cancer comes back which you can see here

Breast Cancer Now also have some information on different options which you can see here

It can be helpful bringing another person to the appointment so you have got two people listening to what the doctor has to say.

If you feel that you would like to talk any of this through with one of the nurses on the helpline then at any stage you are more then welcome to give us a ring. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
