Lump back of the neck

Hi all,

A couple of months ago I found a lump at the back of my neck just underneath my hair line more to the left. I went to the doctors and she assured me it was a lymph node. Last night I felt it and It felt bigger so I went to see the doctor today, this time it was a different doctor, she told me it was still the same size but jusr for my reassurance she's referred me for a scan. I have awful anxiety and now I'm not sure If she's referred me genuinely to calm me down or if she thinks it may be something sinister and isn't prepared to say yet!

  • Hello

It is difficult when you are worried about something, but no one here on Cancer Chat will be able to reassure you or give you any certainty about what the lump might turn out to be.  Most lumps and bumps turn out to be nothing to be concerned about, but you won't know for certain till you get it checked out.  As this is a cancer forum, having conversations on here will keep cancer front of mind and it is quite possible that your symptom has some other explanation. So I think the best thing to do would be to try and do things to take your mind off things.  Try to avoid searching on the web as this is likely to worry you more rather than reassure you.  You have done the right thing getting this checked out by your doctor, but remember only a small proportion of lumps and bumps turn out to be cancer.

    All the best

    Martin

  • Hello,

    Thank you for your reply.

My doctor rang me this afternoon as she could tell i had left the appt very anxious, she has assured me that she has only referred me to put my mind at rest and she absolutely does not think it's anything sinister. So that has made me relax a bit.
